Playground

Graham Hill’s West Playground Renovation Project

In 1994, parents and community came together to construct a playground for the younger children of Graham Hill and the local neighborhood. Seventeen years later, it is in dire need of repair and renovation. In the summer of 2009, broken bridges and slides were removed and replaced with wooden boards.
While the main structure is still in good shape and structurally sound, we need to replace those pieces that were removed and update the area. This will include:

• Adding new turning bars, a zip slide, bridges and climbers.
• Adding new pieces specifically designed for 2 – 5 year olds.
• Bringing the area up to ADA (American Disability Act) compliance by adding transfer platforms so that the playground can be enjoyed by all children.
• A pressure washing to remove graffiti and moss.
• A community painted mural that celebrates our diversity and brings color and vibrancy to the area.

The current cost estimate on this project is $50,000.

In March 2011, we were funded $20,000 through the Department of Neighborhoods Small and Simple fund. Additionally we have raised $6,000 through fundraisers sponsored by the PTA and Kids Company (our on-site daycare provider). That leaves another $24,000 to reach our goal.
